![]() Cretu and Sandra married in 1988 and it was at this point that he decided to expand his musical horizons. ![]() Cretu met Sandra in 1982 and was responsible for writing or producing a lengthy series of hits for her including the worldwide hit, ‘Maria Magdalene’, in 1985, a record that topped the charts in 30 countries. He started his own production career in 1980 and quickly became one of Germany’s most successful record producers turning out hits for Peter Kent, Precious Wilson, Moti Special and perhaps most importantly, future wife Sandra Lauer. Indeed, record producer Michael Cretu, for it was he, preferred to remain anonymous until the record had topped 10 European charts and used the writing and producing pseudonym of, “Curly M.C.”. Credited to Enigma, the record was released with little information as to who was actually behind it. Released in Europe just before Christmas 1990, ‘Sadeness’, became one of the biggest and most unusual worldwide hits of 1991. *UK copies mistakenly title this ‘Sadness’ (Michael Cretu), Franz Gregorian & David Fairstein Virgin International DINS 101 (UK) / Charisma 98864 (USA) “This is music that is different from any other available at the moment.
